Solitaire has provided a fun way to spend time in offices, classrooms, and homes around the world since 1990. Microsoft began including its own version of this classic card game with Windows 3.0, with the base game evolving with new graphics and features since then.
However, if you are a lone addict, you may have something different on the market. There are hundreds of different versions of solitaire available, including online and on the desktop. We will focus on Desktop Solitaire here, with a review of the seven best versions of Solitaire software for Windows 10.
Fans of Spider Solitaire, the variant of the standard Klondike Solitaire card game, will greatly enjoy the Spider Solitaire collection. Collection is the most appropriate word, as this game offers you four different Spider Solitaire games.
The interface is clean and modern, with prominent menu buttons that allow you to change the game, go back to the last turn and ask for suggestions on your next move. You can also check how you play compared to previous solitaire games, with a dashboard and win / loss stats available for viewing.
Spider Solitaire Collection Free can also be removed, with custom themes, backgrounds, colors and card games available.
From the same development team as Spider Solitaire Collection Free, Klondike Solitaire Collection Free offers many of the same features, a common interface, and a similar number of themes available.
Klondike is another name for the type of solitaire card game used with the original Microsoft Solitaire, so expect the game in this collection of solitaires to look a lot like the original.
Like the Spider Solitaire Collection, this Klondike Collection game offers four Klondike game modes, each with different “allowed” rules and moves. However, the success board is the same.
If you are confused about the rules for any of the variant games, you can review them by clicking Month > Rules.
Simple Solitaire for Windows 10, available in the Microsoft Store, isn’t as sleek as other solitaire games on this list, but the name says it all. This game is “just” a solitaire game, with a set of rules that follow the same basic Klondike game as the original.
That said, there are some improvements. You can change the background and back of the card, with six different variants for each available. Like the original Solitaire, Simple Solitaire also offers a hint mode that will help you if you get stuck.
An instruction menu, with pictures, helps to explain the rules of possible solitary novices. There is also a statistics menu that lets you know your overall profit / loss score.
The only downside to Simple Solitaire is an ad at the bottom of the screen, but you may be able to avoid it by turning off the Internet while you’re playing.
Other solitaire collections may have several different versions, but few come as far as the BVS Solitaire Collection to satisfy players, with no less than 535 different solitaire games. You can even modify the rules, creating your own solitaire variants in the process.
BVS Solitaire Collection
Like many of the other collections, BVS Solitaire Collection can be customized, with hundreds of different themes and card numbers. A hint mode is included, along with game completion instructions to let you know when you can’t progress, and a multi-player stats dashboard to help you monitor your performance against others.
The only downside to BVS Solitaire is the cost. Although a 30-day trial is available, this collection will cost you $ 19.95. It could be a small cost to pay for so many solitaire variants, but this can cost all but the most serious solitaire addicts.
As one of the oldest third-party solitaire versions for Windows 10, SolSuite Solitaire continues to be entertaining and impressive. This game classic has been a solid alternative to Microsoft’s own since 1998.
Produced by the same company as the free Klondike and Solitaire Collection games, SolSuite is an all-in-one alternative that contains 732 different solitaire games for users, nearly 200 more than the BVS Solitaire Collection.
It offers over 300 different sets, 100 backgrounds, gameplay hints, sound effects, and an auto play mode to help you solve difficult games. SolSuite also includes a multiplayer mode with shared stats that allows you to compete to beat games faster than your friends.
Like BVS Solitaire, SolSuite is not free and costs $ 19.95 for users. A limited trial version is available, which reduces the number of random cards per game.
For open source enthusiasts, PySolFC offers a free alternative to collections of paid solitaire games like SolSuite. It contains 1000 different solitaire card games, which offer the largest number of solitaire game variants to play in a single pack.
It has many of the common features you’ll see in other major Windows 10 solitaire games, including several sets of cards and different themes, game statistics, and a system of hints that allow you to play automatically and multiple undo moves.
The interface is not as polished or modern as other solitaire games, but it remains a good open source, free, and open source option for gaming on several platforms, including Windows and Linux.
Solitaire on Windows10
Microsoft no longer includes the original Solitaire on Windows10 computers, but does offer a replacement: the Microsoft Solitaire Collection. This new solitaire game combines several favorites, including the original Klondike solitaire, FreeCell and Spider Solitaire in one package.
It moves away from the typical gameplay mode of Microsoft Solitaire, with daily challenges and game experience points (XP) favoring regular use. It comes with ads, but you can remove them by paying a premium subscription (at a cost of $ 10 per year).
The interface is fresh and modern, with gameplay tips and theme options available at the bottom. Achievements are linked to your Microsoft account, allowing you to “level up” (primarily to boast of rights) across multiple devices.
Enjoy Solitaire on Windows 10 and Mobile
Solitaire is a popular card game in itself, so if you don’t like any of these Windows 10 solitaire games, you can find similar games in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. You can also play a solitaire HTML5 version in the search browser play solitaire on Google.
There are other games and platforms available if you’re looking for fun ways to pass the time, including game subscription services.
