Wyze manufactures some of the best affordable indoor camera devices that can be accessed via your smartphone or tablet. Very convenient, you get a security system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a motion sensor and two-way communication capabilities. The Wyze Cam is a device that has a wide variety of applications. In fact, if you’re creative enough, the options are almost endless.
While this camera can function as an indoor security camera, a baby monitor and can even help ensure that your pets behave in the best way while not at home, it is resistant to water?
For what is it?
In short, no. The Wyze Cam is a device that was built exclusively for indoor use and will decompose if it comes in contact with water. Also, if you place it outdoors during extreme temperatures, your device may end up permanently damaged. Then again, no, the Wyze Cam is definitely not meant for outdoor use.
On the other hand, the Wyze boys and girls have announced an upcoming outdoor version of the device. However, until this version arrives, there may be some tricks that can help protect your Wyze Cam for outdoor use.
People have been finding ways to waterproof even though Wyze cameras are no exception. Although it may not work in extreme conditions, you can make sure your camera is as secure as possible. Also, with such a low price, the risk of damage is not a big bet, really.
By and in itself
Before we proceed to describe what you can do to ensure the best weather safety for your camera, let’s look at how the camera behaves under a patio roof that is completely covered in rain. This may not sound fair, but you should keep in mind that this is a camera designed for indoor use, so you can’t expect it to be water or water resistant.
In fact, even in adverse weather conditions (heavy rain, dust, wind and temperature spikes), the Wyze Cam holds up very well. You should not expect any specific harm, electronic or physical. So on its own, the Wyze Cam goes beyond its extreme: it has proven time and time again that it can survive outdoor weather conditions that definitely cannot be guaranteed by the manufacturer or retailer.
Using a box
Of course, if you don’t have a patio roof, your Wyze Cam is unlikely to survive the rain, no matter how heavy or light it is. However, there may be a solution. You can always look for an enclosure for the Wyze Cam on Amazon that does a pretty good job. This wall mounted bracket is essentially an outer casing that looks like a small house.
When looking for a good cabinet on Amazon, pay attention to the back section, where all the electronic components of your Wyze Cam are located. This part must be properly covered. The device should also come with a mounting bracket that will make your job even easier. Remember that you may not find the ideal surface that works with the Wyze magnetic base.
While these devices are made of plastic, they do a fantastic job at protecting your Wyze Cam from heavy rain.
A plastic box
Another solution to waterproof your Wyze camera device would be to simply buy a clear plastic case, especially if we are talking about the Wyze Pa, which has many moving parts. This works surprisingly well during the day and will keep the water, even in more severe weather conditions, away. That said, the IR light will be reflected inside the plastic box, so it won’t work too well at night.
This is not really a permanent solution, as you will want to be able to access your live images at night.
Chain of daisies
All Wyze cameras come with a unique and neat chain connection option. This essentially means you don’t have to plug everyone into the outlet. You need to connect one camera to the wall outlet, and then connect it to the others. This is very useful for external use, as there may be a lack of external plugs.
Waterproofing of Wyze cameras
So far, there aren’t too many suggestions on what you can do to waterproof your Wyze camera. You can try to find an enclosure on Amazon (look for the ones with the highest rating) or do DIY while buying a clear plastic box that works perfectly during the day, but can present problems during the night hours.
