Does the discord not open? 9 ways to fix it

Discord is one of the most popular online chat services, especially for gamers. Use VoIP and instant messaging to keep users connected to each other and also let your friends know what you’re currently playing.

Discord is free to use, although there is an optional premium subscription that will provide users with animated avatars, emojis and more. It is also widely supported on a wide range of devices.

Sometimes Discord may not open when you expect it to. If you boot Discord just to receive an error message, try these methods to resolve the issue.

1. Update Discord to the latest version

Discord receives frequent updates to make sure no one can take advantage of exploits or incorrect code. Discord may not open if your version is not the latest version available. There are several easy solutions to this.

Update Discord to the latest version, and then set the application to update automatically when a new version is available. Note, however, that some users point to “update loops” in which the new installation file creates a problem and refuses to update the application.

2. Update the operating system

Whether you’re using Windows or macOS, Discord is based on having the latest version of your operating system. Keep your operating system up to date to avoid problems starting applications. If Discord does not open, make sure there are no system updates required and try again.

3. Close the other programs

Some users report that Discord finds errors if it starts with other programs running in the background. Turn off resource-intensive applications, such as video game editing programs, photos, and most importantly, antivirus before launching Discord.

It is known that some antivirus programs block the start of Discord, while games running in the background can also cause problems. Start Discord first (or select to start at startup) before you start playing.

4. Clear the application data

One of the main problems that Discord users face is data from damaged applications. To correct this, you must delete and reset the related application data. To do this, first press Windows + R and then write %app data% in the “Run” box. Press Enter.

In the window that opens, find Discord and right-click on the folder and delete it. Repeat this process, but write % localappdata% However. Find the Discord folder again, right-click and delete it.

This clears both server application data and local application data. Once this is done, try restarting Discord.

5. Kill the background discord task

Open Task Manager and look for Discord on the “Processes” tab. Right-click and select “Finish Task.” Restart Discord after you have done so. Removing the process and restarting the application will often correct the problems that arise when initially starting Discord.

6. Change the date and time settings

Discord automatically checks your computer’s date and time as part of the verification process. If your date and time do not match what Discord receives from its servers, the application will often not start.

Open the date and time settings and make sure it’s turned on Set the time automatically. Once this is done, try restarting Discord.

7. Clear the DNS settings

Sometimes Internet settings can cause a Discord error. If this happens, you can “clear” the settings and reset it. In many cases, this will fix the problem and allow Discord to boot normally.

Open the file Windows Command Prompt. You can do this by pressing the button Windows key + R. and then entering cmd. Once you’ve done that, write ipconfig / flushdns and press Enter. Finally, re-launch and check if Discord is still open.

8. Open Discord on the web

All versions of Discord are synchronized with each other. If you are unable to start Discord from your desktop, there may be a problem with the information provided by other sources. An easy solution is to open Discord in your web browser and log in.

Once you’ve signed in to the web version of Discord, log out and try to start the version from your desktop again. Users have reported it as a possible solution to Discord’s launch issues, but it should be noted that all testing is anecdotal.

9. Uninstall and reinstall Discord

If Discord does not open, there may be a problem with the initial installation or a program upgrade. One of the easiest ways to fix this is to completely uninstall Discord and all related files.

Once you have uninstalled Discord, restart your PC. Go to the Discord website and download the latest installation and configuration file. Then reinstall the program. This will resolve any issues with an earlier error downloading or configuring the software.
